Akuapem North MCE Race: Don’t Be a Victim of Your Actions
To the passionate and purposeful youth of Akuapem North,
As discussions heat up around who becomes the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), I write to you as your Youth Organiser and a proud son of this land who wants nothing but the best for our constituency.
We all have our preferred candidates—and that is fine. Whether your support lies with Hon. Daniel Awere, our dedicated Constituency Chairman, or Hon. John Evans Kumordzi, our 2024 Parliamentary Candidate, I respect your right to choose. But let me be clear: your right to choose must not become a license to insult.
We are no longer campaigning—we are in government, and the dynamics have changed. Those who are still operating with a campaign mindset must wake up to this new reality. This MCE race is not a battlefield for insults, division, or disrespect. Let us not destroy the very house we wish to live in.
To the youth I proudly lead, I say this: support who you believe in, but do so with dignity, decorum, and discipline. The use of abusive language, especially online, only damages our unity and undermines our collective future.
As your Youth Leader, I will continue to fight for what rightfully belongs to us—and that I shall do with all my strength. But I can only do it smoothly and effectively if the youth create a conducive and respectful environment, especially during this MCE nomination process. Don’t make it harder by throwing insults and stirring confusion.
Let us remember the guidance from the Holy Qur’an:
“And speak to people good [words]…” — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:83
In everything we do, let wisdom and restraint lead us. When the President finally names the MCE, we should be able to rally behind that choice with peace and unity, not regret and broken relationships.
And finally, do not let your actions make you a slave in your own constituency.
Signed:
Ahmmed Agbenyadzi
Youth Organiser, Akuapem North
