The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately interdict Sammy Gyamfi as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board for violating the code of conduct for government appointees.
According to the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, Gyamfi’s actions in a video where he was seen dealing in foreign exchange without authorization are a clear breach of the law.
Nana Boakye cited several laws that Gyamfi allegedly breached, including the Foreign Exchange Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and the code of conduct introduced by President Mahama. Specifically, Section 3(1) and (4) of the Foreign Exchange Act, Act 723, prohibits dealing in foreign exchange without a license.
The NPP also drew comparisons to the case of Cecilia Dapaah, a former Minister who was involved in a scandal over stolen funds. Nana Boakye questioned why Gyamfi should be treated differently, given the similarities in their cases.
“We cannot but remember that when huge sums of money was reported to have been stolen from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah…yet she resigned. Sammy Gyamfi’s own is not different,” he said.
The NPP is calling on President Mahama to take immediate action and interdict Gyamfi. Emphasizing that if the President fails to act, it would mean that he is not serious about enforcing the code of conduct. “If President Mahama failed to act on Sammy Gyamfi’s dollar sharing, it means he is not serious on his code of conduct initiative,” he said.
