The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspected drug peddlers during an intelligence-led operation at Kunsu Township in the Ashanti Region, leading to the recovery of a locally manufactured firearm, suspected narcotic substances and cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug activities.
According to a police statement issued on 29 June, the operation was carried out by the Mankranso District Police Command in the early hours of Friday, 26 June, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and other organised crimes within the district.
The suspects have been identified as Issaka Musah, 22; Amankwah Emmanuel, 25; Kwame Boateng, 32; and Appiah Prince, 23.
Police said a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol loaded with two BB rounds of ammunition.
Officers also retrieved quantities of suspected Tramadol, red capsules, dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, a whitish powdery substance wrapped in paper suspected to be cocaine, and GH¢5,647.40 in cash.
The cash is believed to be proceeds from the alleged illicit drug trade.
According to the Police, the suspects allegedly admitted ownership of the recovered items during preliminary investigations.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be put before the court upon the completion of investigations.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related offences and organised crime across the country.
It also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to assist in identifying and arresting persons involved in criminal activities.
