The Minister of Finance Dr.Casiel Ato Forson who doubles as Caretaker Defence Minister has provided an update on the phenomenal work being undertaking by the Ghana Armed Forces on President John Mahama’s transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway project.
He said so far, about 51km of the entire stretch has been successfully cleared.
Dr.Casiel Ato Forson said In June, following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the government through the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens in Lower West Akyem Municipality, Asene Manso Akroso and Achiase.
“Steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism, the foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors.
The progress made so far is truly impressive” said Dr.Casiel Ato Forson.
The Accra to Kumasi Expressway is a 198.7-kilometer, six-lane high-speed motorway designed to connect Ghana’s two largest cities.
This modern alignment shortens the traditional travel distance by over 50 km, significantly reducing travel times between the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti
The total distance of the expressway is 198.7 km made up of 6-lane main expressway (with speeds up to 120 km/h) and 23 km of urban connecting roads in Accra and Kumasi.
It features eight major interchanges along the route.
The Expressway passes through key communities including Ablekuma, Adeiso, Asamankese, Akim Oda, Kwaso, and Sawua.
