Ghana legend Dan Owusu has expressed concerns about the sacking of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo as the team gears up for the 2026 World Cup tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Ghana FA resolved to part ways with the former Talent Development coach of Borussia Dortmund following back-to-back pre-World Cup friendly defeats to Austria and Germany.
The West African football heavyweights succumbed to a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna on Friday, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday evening.
For Dan Owusu, the team now faces a race against time to prepare for upcoming World Cup, casting doubt about the chances of the next coach, while criticizing the direction of the national team.
“It’s too late to bring in a new coach. We have less than three months to the World Cup and, for me, it’s 50-50 whether the next coach will succeed with the team. Otto Addo’s sacking gained momentum after the qualifiers, but the FA stood firmly behind him. We are getting everything wrong in this country.” He told Bryt FM in an interview.
Addo oversaw 22 matches as Black Stars coach. During this period, Ghana recorded eight wins, five draws, and nine defeats, scoring 35 goals and conceding 28.
