KTU on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, received a donation of four BioPack systems from Washington University through a former staff member of the institution.
The donation was made to the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences by Mr. Larry Atakora-Amaniampong, who served as Principal Laboratory Technician at KTU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering from October 2016 to August 2022.
The equipment was formally presented to KTU management and received on behalf of the university by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Richard Ohene Asiedu. Also present at the ceremony were Registrar Ms. Evelyn Fafa Adom, Director of Finance Rev. Prince Baffour-Ofori, University Librarian Dr. Edward Asante, and Director of Internal Audit Mr. Alexander Kyere.
Dr. Boakye Agyeman, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, Faculty Officer Ms. Adisah Gbene, and technicians from the Biomedical Engineering Department also attended.
Speaking after the donation, university management expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a significant contribution toward strengthening practical training and research capacity in the Biomedical Engineering Department. They noted that the BioPack machines will enhance hands-on learning for students and support ongoing research activities within the faculty.
Mr. Atakora-Amaniampong said the donation was part of his personal effort to give back to the institution that laid the foundation for his career in biomedical engineering. He expressed hope that the equipment would help bridge theory and practice for current KTU students.
The Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences is expected to put the machines to immediate use in training and research programs.
