President John Dramani Mahama today joined the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to officially rename the party’s national headquarters as the Jerry John Rawlings House, in honour of the party’s founder and former President, the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
As part of activities commemorating what would have been Rawlings’ 79th birthday, President Mahama also unveiled a bust of the late statesman, paying tribute to his enduring contributions to Ghana’s democratic development and political history.
Addressing party members and supporters at the ceremony, President Mahama reflected on Rawlings’ humility, noting that the former President had repeatedly declined suggestions to have national monuments named after him during his lifetime.
He urged Ghanaians to honour Rawlings’ legacy not only through memorials, but by embracing the values he championed—probity, accountability, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.
The renaming of the party’s headquarters and the unveiling of the bust serve as lasting symbols of Rawlings’ impact on the NDC and Ghana’s democratic journey.
