Veteran Ghanaian trainer Abdul Karim Zito believes the experience of Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz could prove crucial to the Black Stars hopes of making a strong impact at the 2026 World Cup tournament in North America.
Ghana are making their fifth World Cup appearance and are expected to open their account against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 in what promises to a crucial Group L opener.
After facing Panama in their opener, the Black Stars will take on European giants, England and 2018 finalists, Croatia in the highly competitive tournament co-hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Swiit FM, Zito, a former coach of Asante Kotoko backed the Portuguese gaffer to inspire the Black Stars World Cup campaign, considering his wealth of experience in the game.
“Carlos Queiroz’s experience could prove to be Ghana’s trump card at the World Cup. His vast knowledge of the game and wealth of experience will be a major benefit to the Black Stars” he said.
“Since his arrival, he has shown great maturity and leadership, and I believe the players have responded positively to him. The boys seem happy working under him, and I strongly believe they will give their all for him”
“I am confident Ghana now has a coach who is well-versed in the game and capable of leading the team successfully. His appointment is undoubtedly a huge boost for the Black Stars.”
Ghana head into the competition still searching for their first knockout stage qualification since the historic 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals in their best-ever performance.
The team has previously featured at the global showpiece in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with hopes high that the 2026 edition could mark a turning point for the squad.
