The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, has cautioned the Member of parliament for the constituency , Hon. Micheal Okyere Baafi to respect the current administration, insisting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is now in power and fully in charge of municipal affairs.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, Hon. Boakye stressed that his mandate is to manage the municipality without interference or political pressure.
“I want to tell my brother that his party is not in power; it is the NDC that is in power. And so far as I was brought by the President to look after the municipality, I will do exactly that,” he stated.
He dismissed suggestions of political maneuvering in the management of the municipality, explaining that governance structures are clearly defined.
“There is no power play anywhere. The region is being handled by the Regional Minister, and the municipality is also being handled by the MCE,” he added.
Hon. Boakye, however, acknowledged the previous government’s contribution to infrastructure, particularly the renovation of Jackson Park.
“Yes, it is good that your government renovated Jackson Park, and I always praise them for that wherever I go. But they are not in power anymore, so they should understand that,” he noted.
The MCE also addressed allegations surrounding the allocation of a municipal event centre, which has become a subject of public debate.
According to him, claims that he sidelined certain individuals or acted unfairly are inaccurate. He explained
“Even if he is interested in the event centre, he should have come to me directly. I am forced to say this because of what has been going around about me not wanting to sign his common fund,” he said.
He further refuted claims made during a previous radio discussion that the facility had been handed to a politically affiliated individual.
“He mentioned that I had given the event centre to a certain NDC member, but the lady using the facility is Linda Akrasi from Koforidua. She is not an outsider,” Hon. Boakye clarified.
The MCE emphasized that the allocation process was transparent and followed due procedure, adding that the decision cannot be reversed.
“I want to make it clear that the event centre has already been allocated, and it will not be reversed today or tomorrow,” he stated.
He explained that the beneficiary expressed interest and successfully went through all required procurement processes before the final approval was granted.
Touching on concerns about pricing, Hon. Boakye rejected claims that the facility was allocated under questionable financial terms.
