The Upper West Regional Police Command on Monday, February 16, 2026, engaged students and staff of Wa Senior High School (The Great WASEC) to reinforce security, discipline, and peaceful coexistence within the school community.
The visit, led by the Regional Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, followed an incident during the school’s SRC Week celebrations on January 28, 2026, in which some students were attacked by students from another school. Seventeen (17) suspects have since been arrested and are currently before the court.
Addressing approximately 2,000 students and staff, DCOP Yiribaare reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding educational institutions across the Region. He stressed that schools must remain centres of learning, character formation, and leadership—not arenas for violence, indiscipline, or criminal activity. He cautioned students against misconduct, vandalism, and the use or trafficking of illicit substances, emphasizing that criminal behaviour at a young age can have lasting consequences on future academic and career prospects.
The Headmaster, Alhaji Iddrisu Thirdman, expressed appreciation for the swift police intervention and pledged the school’s continued cooperation in maintaining discipline and lawful conduct.
The engagement reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Police and the school community in promoting a safe and secure learning environment.
