There is renewed tension at the headquarters of African Faith Terbenacle church in Akyem Anyinam in the Atiwa East District in Eastern region as national trustees and elders of the church denied access to the headquarters for annual delegates conference and first quarter meeting.
After the death of the late leader of the church Superior Prophet David Nkansah a year ago, two factions (National trustees ,and family of the late Leader), are litigating over selection of the next leader of the church
Both faction had scheduled to hold annual delegates conference from January 13th to 15th,2023 at the Headquarters of the Church.
In the interest of peace cognizant that there are multiple court cases pending on the subject matter, the Atiwa East District Security Council (DISEC) ordered cancelation of the conference, and lock of the temple and mission house at headquarters.
However, members of the National trustees and other Elders of the church across the country arrived Friday for the conference saying DISEC decision came too late.
They were however denied access forcing them to use the house of Chief Pastor Stephen Frimpong Nkansah who was the linguist to the late Superior Prophet David Nkansah and appointed by the national trustees and large majority members of the church as the next leader, to hold the conference and annual first quarter meeting there.
Addressing the media at the sidelines of the event Saturday, the National Public Relations Officer of African Faith Terbenacle Church ,Chief Pastor Joseph Kwasi Rockson accused the police and district Chief Executive for Atewa East Kwabena Panin Nkansah of partiality.
He said the DCE is a member of the family of the late leader therefore his biasness in the impasse.
He stated that, they are peace loving people therefore will continue to remain calm but when pushed force will be applied .
Chief Pastor Joseph Kwasi Rockson called in the Inspector General of Police Dr.George Akuffo Dampare and the interior Minister Ambrose Derry to intervene to avert any unfortunate incident.
The National Youth President of the Church Chief Pastor Ebenezer Nkansah Twum Barimah said , leadership of the church has chosen a leader in the person of Chief Pastor Stephen Frimpong which must be respected adding that the family has no right to choose a leader for the church since the church is not inheritance.
However, the Anyinam District Police Commander DSP Raymond Mahama Iddrisu refuted allegation of bias against the police and DISEC stating that the decision taken was in the interest of peace in the area.
He urged to two parties to listen to the head of Nkansah family to withdraw all court cases and sit down to settle the impasse amicably for peace to prevail.
