Edward Doe Adjaho, chairman of the vetting committee for the battle to choose the party’s flagbearer has stated emphatically that businessman Ernest Kobeah wasn’t forced to pull out of the NDC flagbearership race.
He insisted that because Mr Kobeah withdrew freely, he was not disqualified from the event.
On March 29, Ernest Kwaku Kobeah gave the NDC elections committee his letter of resignation.
Mr Adjaho told the media after the party’s screening process on Wednesday that Mr Kobeah “indicated that it was voluntary.”
A former Speaker of Parliament was impressed with how well the three candidates for flagbearer performed throughout the screening.
“If you look at the Constitution and guidelines, for example, you must satisfy the qualification eligibility prescribed in the 1992 Constitution. You have to satisfy the party’s constitution, and you must also satisfy the guideline issued by the National Executive Committee (NEC). All of them did well before us, they all satisfied the conditions,” he remarked.
The NDC’s May 13 primaries will now allow former president John Dramani Mahama, former finance minister Dr Kwabena Duffour, and former mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu to run.
Kojo Bonsu, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, and Mr Mahama chose the second and third spots on the ballot, respectively, after the voting for the presidential primaries.
