In observance of this year’s International Kidney Awareness Day, a forum was held in Parliament today under the theme, “Are Your Kidneys, OK? Detect Early! Protect Early!” The event brought together healthcare experts, Members of Parliament, Staff of the Parliamentary Service and citizens to discuss the importance of early detection and prevention of kidney diseases.
Addressing the participants at the forum, a Deputy Clerk of Parliament Camillo Pwamang commended the Ghana Kidney Association for their role in effectively mobilising support for persons affected by the condition. He pledged the support of Parliament to speed up the passage of necessary legislations to streamline their operations.
An Associate Professor of the University of Ghana Medical School during his presentation emphasized the need for regular check-ups and lifestyle changes to protect kidney health.
He also highlighted the rising prevalence of kidney-related diseases in the country and stressed the importance of public education on kidney care.
Members of Parliament expressed their commitment to supporting policies that prioritize healthcare and raise awareness on kidney diseases.
The forum was an opportunity to engage the public on the crucial need to take preventive measures and seek early treatment to reduce the burden of kidney diseases.
