Tailors and seamstress in Asamankese of the West Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region have said they currently survive by the production and sales of Nose mask which is now compulsory in most countries, including Ghana.
According to them, their involvement in the local production of nose mask is a good move and commanded the government for directing all citizens to wear face masks in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.
The Tailors and seamstress also want the Government to enforce the wearing of a nose mask until the entire world overcomes the deadly disease.
At a separate interview with the Tailors and seamstress, one Master Rootman said the local production has created a job for their apprentices and jobless youth who purchase at low prices from them(producers) and add ¢50p or ¢1.00 to the prices at the market to get their profit.
Another woman, Yaa Kyerewaa said some local companies have been placing an order from them and they earn from ¢30 to ¢200 daily.
The Tailors and seamstress said sewing has turned down over suspension of public gathering because most people sew during the wedding, funeral, and other occasions.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has advised the general public to purchase locally produced face masks which consist of three layers.
According to the FDA, all certified producers of home-made nose masks are required to make at least two of the layers with plain fabric.
This is to ensure that reusable home-made nose masks meet safety standards.
