A massive stockpile of confiscated narcotic substances, totaling 10,833 parcels, has been destroyed at the Akwadum Landfil site in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking and keep illicit substances off Ghana’s streets.
The destruction exercise, carried out under the supervision of state authorities, followed orders issued by the Koforidua Circuit Court on May 5, 2026, in connection with separate narcotics-related cases.
The bulk of the drugs came from a case involving Ayertey Raphael Wilson and Samuel Tettey, who were convicted after entering into a plea bargaining agreement with the state.
The two were charged with offences related to the possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
In that case alone, authorities destroyed 150 sacks of cannabis. The seized substances had been transported in two trucks—one carrying 76 sacks and the other 74 sacks. Each sack contained 70 parcels, bringing the total number of parcels destroyed to 10,500.
An additional 333 parcels of cannabis linked to another case involving Innocent Klokofi were also destroyed following the court’s directive.
The exercise drew representatives from the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Commission, the Attorney-General’s Department, legal counsels for the accused persons, and members of the media, all of whom witnessed the destruction process.
