President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a Farm Services Center at Takoratwene in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region, a move aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the area.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama stated that the initiative forms part of his campaign commitments to strengthen farming and improve the livelihoods of people in the district.

He noted that the facility will be equipped with modern machinery, farm inputs, and fertilizers to support farmers and promote more efficient, technology-driven agricultural practices.
He praised residents of Afram Plains for their consistent contribution to Ghana’s food production, describing the area as a key food basket that has supported the nation over the years.

President Mahama explained that the center will also play a role in stabilizing farm produce prices, increasing farmers’ incomes, and minimizing post-harvest losses. He reaffirmed the district’s importance as a major agricultural hub, particularly in the cultivation of crops such as beans, yams, and others.
He further revealed that the government has allocated 3 million Ghana cedis to the National Buffer Stock Company to purchase produce from farmers, ensuring ready markets for their goods. He commended farmers across the country for their dedication and expressed confidence in their capacity to feed the nation.
The President also announced plans to provide free fertilizers and expand irrigation systems nationwide as part of broader efforts to strengthen agriculture and enhance food security.
