Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that party members are currently living in fear since they are unsure of who might be arrested next.
He claimed that the Mahama administration was intimidating, harassing, and prosecuting NPP members in order to instill fear in them.
Speaking to the media following the party’s May 19 petition to the Diplomatic Corps Dean over events in the nation, he remarked, “If you are an NPP person, when you wake up, you don’t know if you are the next person on the list,” he said.
According to Salam Mustapha, the situation has gotten so bad that NPP members now need to be ready for potential arrest whenever they go out.
“These days, when you are going out, you must prepare yourself well. You must have toothpaste, toothbrush, sponge, Milo, Cerelac on you because you don’t know if you will be picked up in the next moment,” he said.
He described this as the current reality of being an NPP member in Ghana.
“That is the sad reality to be an NPP person in Ghana today,” he stated.
He questioned whether such a political climate reflects the democratic values Ghana claims to uphold.
“Is this the democracy that we want to build?” he asked.
