Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the Mahama administration following the arrest of some NPP communicators, including Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando.
According to Ahiagbah, Baba Amando should not have been detained and placed under detention by an Accra Circuit court as he utilized political satire to criticize the administration.
“The NPP cannot be silenced. The arrest of NPP Communicators for using political satire to criticise the govt marks a new low in the decline we are witnessing under H.E. Mahama. To the hawks in the NDC, satire is used in all democracies; it will survive in Ghana despite the cost,” he wrote on his X page.
In a similar vein, following Sunyani East Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party’s two-week remand by an Accra Circuit Court, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin harshly criticized the way the case was handled.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin questioned the presiding judge’s behavior, characterizing the ruling as incorrect and expressing doubts about the case’s judicial impartiality.
Nonetheless, he praised the Ghana Police Service for conducting the arrest and investigation procedure in a professional manner.
“I want to commend the Ghana Police Service that, for nothing at all, they have demonstrated professionalism. I will commend the IGP, the Director-General of CID, and the police prosecutors, as well as the police detectives; they have been professional.
“But that judge, the Circuit Court judge, shame on him. He has brought a big shame onto himself and the judiciary,” he said.
