Former Asante Kotoko defender Gideon Baah has expressed gratitude to his former employers for not neglecting him after sustaining a career-threatening injury which kept him out from the game for about nine months.
Baah, who currently plies his trade for Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan suffered a broken shin in April 2010 while playing for the Porcupines in a Premier League game against bitterest rivals, Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The former Black Stars left-back underwent a surgery that cost the club thousands of Ghana Cedis after which the club spent another whopping sum of money to ensure that he went through his rehabilitation program successfully.
Baah sharing his thought on the said injury lavished praises on the porcupines as he strongly believes they saved his career.
“I think they did more than what a club like Kotoko could do in Ghana and it still beats my imagination,” he told Don Summer of Angel FM in Kumasi.
“The level of attention that was given to my injury, and the professionalism of the treatment I had were just so exceptional.”
The defender opines that, he sometimes counts himself lucky that he was playing for the Porcupines when he suffered the horrific injury.
“I tell myself that, I was lucky to have had that kind of care and treatment. Everybody knows how it is when you sustain an injury in Ghana. But I was lucky that, I was playing for Kotoko.”
“Stories of players being left on their own by their clubs after sustaining career-threatening or even lesser injuries are so rampant in Ghana. I, therefore, count myself lucky. I still think about it now and thank God that, I was fortunate. I still thank Kotoko for what they did for me at that time.”
