President Nana Akufo-Addo has said underlying health conditions that are associated with almost all the COVID-related deaths in Ghana are mainly diabetes and hypertension.
He revealed that risk factors for these diseases are being overweight, eating refined foods, too much salt, and sugar in meals, inadequate physical exercise, excessive alcohol intake, and smoking.
Addressing the Nation for the 10th time on COVID-19, Nana Akufo-Addo said It is, thus, crucial that citizens improve their fitness levels, and adopt healthy eating practices that incorporate their local foodstuffs, which boost their immune systems.
He said Persons with these diseases must take extra precautions, and take their treatment seriously.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Ghana have now moved to 7,881 after 113 more cases were recorded in less than 24-hours, according to latest figures released by the Ghana Health Service on Sunday, May 31, 2020.
One more person has also died from the virus taking the death toll to 36.
Meanwhile, 301 people who were infected with the virus have also recovered taking the total number of recoveries to 2,841.
Ahafo region now remains the only region out of the 16 regions yet to record a COVID-19 case.
