The government is expected to spend amounts to the Ghana cedis equivalent of ¢3,214,538 to purchase KAPEK scientific mathematical instruments to be supplied by the Ghana West African Examination Council for use during the examination by Ghanaian candidate.
Each of the mathematical sets will cost ¢75.00 with an additional calculator, free in-one functionality which comes in cheaper than acquiring them individually and also help improve the rating of the certificate issued.
However, Parliament has approved a tax waiver of $3.2 million for the supply of KAPEK scientific mathematical instruments to be procured for use in the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Meanwhile, The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) has asked the government to send all school children waiting to write their final examinations home.
“In the current circumstances, the children are psychologically unstable and would, therefore, not be of sound mind to write the WASSCE and BECE examinations and come out successfully,” a decision taken at a National Executive Consultative Meeting indicated.
In a related development, the National Democratic Congress’ COVID-19 technical team wants the government to reverse its decision to open schools for final year students as the cases arise.
It said the government must immediately shut down the schools to protect the students.
