President Nana Akufo-Addo has asked the Ghana Education Service (GES) to consider an alternative disciplinary action as he intervenes for the eight students from Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region who have been dismissed.
The Ministry of Education stated this in a statement.
As a result, the Ghana Education Service has been advised by the Ministry of Education to explore other disciplinary measures.
The eight female students were expelled after they were shown in a viral video making disparaging remarks against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The eight Chiana Senior High School pupils’ discharge was deemed unlawful by the non-governmental group Child Rights International (CRI).
Despite the organization’s outspoken condemnation of the student’s behaviour, it said that the Ghana Education Service (GESremoval )’s of the teachers was not only harsh but also detrimental to the pupils’ ability to receive an adequate education.
Child Rights also urged in a statement that the GES make the investigation that led to the choice public.
“CRI calls on GES to publish the findings of their investigations to the general public as stated in their earlier press release, highlighting the concerns of due processes followed in arriving at the conclusion of dismissal vis-à-vis the best interest of the child as enshrined in the Children’s Act (560) 1998.”
