Indigenes of Jumapo, a community in New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region have taken their destiny into their own hands by contributing huge sums of money to provide the only Health Center serving the community a major facelift.
The initiative was taken by indigenes living in the diaspora.
The building being used as Health Center constructed in the early 1950s was deteriorating due to lack of rehabilitation by the state. Additionally, the facility lacked medical equipment including delivery beds. But now, the facility has been renovated and furnished with world-class medical equipment boosting the delivery of quality health care.
The renovation and furnishing were done at the cost of Ghc115, 000.Dr.Eric Osa, Coordinator for the project spoke told mybrytfmonline.com that “most of the equipment here was obsolete, so we have replaced most of them, the delivery beds, install ultrasound machines, Health Management system soft wear to do away paper folders, we have installed many equipment here which is rare in most Health Centers in Ghana”
The health workers are optimistic pregnant women in the community will from henceforth deliver at the facility instead of traveling to the Eastern Regional Hospital, in Koforidua.
The Senior Physician Assistant at the Health Center Winfred Paddy told the media at the sidelines of a ceremony to inaugurate the newly refurbished and equipped facility that “As I earlier said there has not been any facelift of the facility for the past 60 years so the floors were cracked, the walls were not painted, the delivery bed was not in good condition so patience who visit here for antenatal care services pass and go to another facility to deliver because of the condition of the facility so now that they tiled the place, given us new delivery beds would give the patients comfort so we know henceforth when they come for antenatal services they will feel comfortable to deliver here.”
Some women in the Community excited by the facelift of the facility said they will patronize it for all their maternal services. “now that they have renovated the facility and equipped it, we will not go anywhere to deliver again unless the Doctor and Nurses refer us. We are very happy.”
The Chief Executive Officer of the KAMA group of Companies, Dr. Michael Addo Agyekum appealed for support to furnish the medical Laboratory at the facility to complement efforts being made to provide quality healthcare for residents.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Adjei Boateng, advised health workers at the facility to discharge their duties professionally.
