In order to ensure security during the general elections in 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has encouraged the Ghana Police Service to maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
He asserts that the level of protection provided by the Police Service will have a major impact on how peaceful the general elections are the following year.
Speaking at the 52nd Cadet Officers Graduation at the Police Academy in Accra, Dr. Bawumia said that the country is preparing for the presidential and legislative elections at the same time as the cadet officers’ graduation.
According to him, this forces them to take on important duties and responsibilities as soon as they join the army.
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 election stated that the police have undoubtedly been amazing and acknowledged their outstanding achievements to preserving internal security during the nation’s democratic journey since independence.
In order to guarantee the success of the general elections in 2024, he emphasized the importance of depending on the vast expertise and professionalism of the police force.
The newly commissioned officers were given a charge by the Vice President, who chairs the Police Council, to perform their jobs with the highest integrity and professionalism.
“As you graduate from here, much will be expected of you to support and maintain the long-standing professionalism in providing the needed security before, during and after the elections in the communities that you will be deployed,” he said.
Nonetheless, Dr. Bawumia emphasized Ghanaians’ shared accountability for creating safer neighborhoods.
“As the government does its part and the police also do their part, I like to entreat every well-meaning Ghanaian to come on board so that together, we can sustain the gains made in ensuring a safe, peaceful and secure Ghana.
“Let us partner the police in our various communities. Passing on relevant information on crime and criminal activities to the police is a gesture that can save lives,” Dr Bawumia stated.
