The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has defended its response to the recent building collapse at Avenor, insisting that emergency personnel deployed to the scene had adequate equipment to carry out rescue operations effectively.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt FM with host Kwamina Sam Biney, Assistant Divisional Officer King Alex Nartey stated that the rescue teams were sufficiently resourced and worked diligently throughout the operation.
According to him, claims that the response was hampered by a lack of equipment are unfounded. He maintained that personnel on the ground had the necessary tools and logistics to conduct both rescue and recovery efforts under the prevailing circumstances.
The Avenor building collapse has sparked public concern over structural integrity, safety standards, and the nation’s emergency response preparedness. Rescue teams responded swiftly to the incident as efforts continued to assess the extent of damage and possible casualties.
Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the cause of the collapse while examining whether building regulations and safety standards were adhered to.
Mr. Nartey’s remarks come amid increasing public scrutiny of disaster management systems and the enforcement of building codes across the country.
