Prof. Enoch Opoku Antwi, a renowned governance expert, has raised concerns over the selection process for awards recognizing top public and corporate leaders in Ghana. Speaking on the popular morning show Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, he questioned the methodology used to determine winners of the 2026 Ministers of state Excellence Awards’ “Best CEO” and “Best Minister” accolades.
Prof. Opoku Antwi noted that while Sammy Gemfi was named the Best CEO and Hon. Ato Fosen honored as the Best Minister, the criteria for these awards were not made clear to the public. “What criteria are being used to judge these awards, and what technology or system is being applied to determine who is the best?” he asked.
He emphasized that every professional operates in different environments and faces unique challenges. “It is important to recognize that the work of a CEO is different from that of a Minister. Comparing them without transparent and standardized metrics may not reflect true performance,” he added.
The governance expert called for greater transparency in award processes, urging organizers to clearly define measurable criteria and disclose the evaluation systems used. He highlighted that such measures would not only enhance credibility but also ensure that awards genuinely recognize excellence in leadership.
Prof. Opoku Antwi’s comments have sparked conversations among citizens and industry observers, many of whom believe that recognition should be based on verifiable impact rather than popularity or subjective assessments.
The show Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem serves as a platform for in-depth discussions on national issues, and Prof. Opoku Antwi’s appearance underscored the need for accountability and transparency in public recognitions and awards.
