Veteran Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars as the team prepares for their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, insisting that strong national support could play a decisive role in their success.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece and are expected to open their Group L campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in what promises to be a crucial opener.
After facing Panama, the Black Stars will come up against European heavyweights England and 2018 finalists Croatia in a highly competitive group at the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Swiit FM, Zito stressed that unity and unwavering backing from supporters across the country can inspire confidence within the squad and help Ghana compete strongly against any opposition on the global stage.
“I want to appeal to all Ghanaians to give the Black Stars their full support throughout this World Cup campaign. For me, when Ghanaians unite behind the national team, there is no opponent we cannot face,” he said.
“We must continue to believe in and pray for the team because the success of the Black Stars goes beyond football—it brings pride to the entire nation and helps project Ghana positively on the global stage.”
Ghana head into the tournament still searching for a first knockout-stage appearance since their historic run in 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa—still their best-ever World Cup performance.
The Black Stars have previously featured at the World Cup in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with hopes high that the 2026 edition could mark a major turning point for the team.
