A 29-year-old farmer in Twapease of the Kwaebibirim Municipality, Samuel Kusi has been sentenced to three years imprisonment in hard labor for threatening to kill his girlfriend by the Asamankese Circuit Court.
The accused, popular known as Otope was also given another three months sentence for intentionally causing damage to some footwear valued at GH¢30.00, brooms and curtains of the girlfriend, both sentences to run concurrently.
Chief Inspector Samuel Appietu Appiah, prosecution officer told the court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams that the complainant is Doris Amaniniapong and the accused is a farmer, both live in Twapease.
He said the complainant was in an amorous relationship with the accused person for a year and later separated due to his deviant behavior such as smoking, drinking, and assaulting the complainant frequently.
According to the facts of the case, the accused was not happy over the separation, and in August 2021, he called the complainant to return to him and threatened to kill her if she refuses.
It said on 29th August, at about 12:00am whilst the complainant was sleeping with his mother and siblings, accused went with a gallon of diesel to the compound of Doris Amaniniapong and he sprinkled it and set fire on the house of the complainant and run away.
A few minutes later, the mother of the complainant woke up and saw smoke in their corridor, and quickly entered their room to bring others there outside.
The complainant, together with her mother and siblings managed to quench the fire but unfortunately lost footwear valued at ¢30.00, brooms, and curtains.
Later, people in the community and the complainant family suspected Samuel Kuse and made citizen’s arrest and handed him over to the police and upon interrogation, the accused admitted the offense and was charged and sent to court for prosecution.
