The Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area Nene Sakite II on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, inaugurated an Emergency COVID-19 fund to help contain the spread of Coronavirus in the Traditional Area.
The fund would also facilitate support to the vulnerable, marginalized and people living with disabilities in Manya-Krobo, to mitigate the negative impact the pandemic afflicts on them.
An 11-member Fund Management Committee has also been inaugurated and sworn into office to manage the fund to fulfill its intended purpose.
The Committee is responsible for mobilization of resources that is cash and kind from among natives in particular both home and abroad and managing it to reflect the aim of the establishment.
The Manya Krobo Traditional Council pledged seed money of GH₵50,000.
The Traditional Council instantly issued a GH₵22,000 cheque as part payment into the account of the fund at the Manya Krobo Rural Bank.
This seed capital is to enable the Committee to commence business with immediate effect whiles they wait for other individuals and stakeholders to contribute their quota.
Present at the event were Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo-Simon Kwaku Tetteh, District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Felix Adjao and the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey.
Ghana has recorded 1042 cases of Coronavirus with 9 deaths as of April 20, 2020.
The Eastern Region COVID-19 cases currently stand at 51, with the majority of these cases recorded among construction workers at Kpong in the Lower Manya-Krobo Municipality. The first case at the AFCONs Construction company camp was recorded on March 31, 2020, after an Indian expatriate tested positive.
Contact tracing to the communities around has been completed with test results of samples collected yet to be released.
