All polling stations in Ghana have officially closed for the 2024 general elections.
At some polling places, the vote count is in progress. The Electoral Commission has hosted several media briefings to update the public on its activities.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) exchanged allegations and made multiple arrests due to the numerous occurrences documented in different constituencies.
Specifically, a conflict between the Obuasi East NDC Communications Officer and military soldiers in the Obuasi East constituency caused isolated disruptions. Two military officers were allegedly assaulted by the NDC Communications Officer in Obuasi East.
During the current general elections in 2024, the fully armed military tried to enter the polling place.
Allegations of vote-buying and ballot stuffing have also occurred.
Four people have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Nyankpala, Northern Region, that left one person dead and another injured.
Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simalia, and Alhaji Bashiru Mohamed are the four people who were taken into custody.
Following the discovery of suspected forged printed ballots in the custody of a group purportedly linked with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), confusion and tension hampered the voting process at the St. Theresa’s School polling station in the Okaikwei South constituency.
