The Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) a maternal and child health-focused NGO in Koforidua have donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Kwahu Afram Plains South District to help fight against COVID-19 in Ghana.
The items include Infrared Thermometers, Disposable gowns, Coverall, nose masks, tissues, and hand sanitizers.
The medical supplies were handed over to the directorate by the Executive Director of the NGO, Edmund Duodu Atweri.
He encouraged health workers in the district to continue to sacrifice for rural folks in deprived communities in the area regardless of the glaring challenges.
Afram Plains South District is one of the most deprived areas in Ghana. The Area has no Hospital but has a Health center at the district capital -Tease.
Most of the health facilities are CHP centers located in very remote and Island communities with either no road or deplorable roads.
Logistics required for the dedicated frontline health workers to work efficiently have always been a major challenge.
Characteristically, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other logistics needed by health workers to work to contain Covid-19 are lacking exposing frontline health workers to danger.
Hence the donation of the PPEs would help protect health workers in the district in line with duty. Afram Plains South District has not recorded any case of coronavirus but Eastern Region has recorded 57 cases as of April 28, 2020.
This is not the first time, Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) is donating to support the fight against Coronavirus pandemic. In March this year, the NGO donated fifteen (15) Veronica hand washing buckets to Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly.
The items were presented by the Executive Director of DMAC Foundation, Edmund Atweri Duodu, and received on behalf of the Assembly by the Municipal Health Director, Augustina Nartey.
The hand washing kits were expected to be distributed and positioned at immunization and CHPS zones in the municipality for pregnant women and nursing mothers to wash their hands frequently to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
