Ghana’s healthcare sector continues to make meaningful strides, driven by collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes.
At the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, a renewed sense of hope emerged following the delivery of two new dialysis machines and essential medical equipment by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. The support aims to significantly strengthen renal care services at the facility.
The donation, led by Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko and supported by HealthTeach Ghana and Project C.U.R.E., represents more than an equipment upgrade—it provides critical support for patients living with kidney disease.
Hospital staff and management welcomed the development with great optimism. The addition of the machines has doubled the hospital’s dialysis capacity, allowing more patients from the Volta Region and surrounding areas to access timely and potentially life-saving treatment.
Prior to this intervention, the hospital operated with two dialysis machines, through which 1,385 dialysis sessions have been conducted since August 2024 for 23 patients. Sadly, three of these patients have passed away.
Medical Director Dr. Arko Akoto Ampaw, who received the equipment on behalf of the hospital, expressed sincere appreciation for the support. He noted that the new machines would ease pressure on both patients and healthcare workers and assured that they would be properly maintained to benefit many more people in the years ahead.
The development underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system. From investments in advanced facilities like cardiology centres to improved access to essential treatments such as dialysis, these initiatives are helping to build a future where quality healthcare is accessible to all.
For many Ghanaians, that future is steadily becoming a reality.
