The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has organized a one-day training program for health facility operators in the Eastern Region. The training included operators of pharmacies, maternity homes, diagnostic centers, laboratories, clinics, health centers, polyclinics, and hospitals.
The program is part of efforts to improve safe, quality, and standard healthcare delivery in the region. Participants received certificates after the training. The theme was: “Empowering Healthcare Facility Managers to Uphold Regulatory Standards to Deliver Quality and Safe Healthcare in Ghana.”
Speaking at the event in Koforidua, HeFRA Registrar Dr. Winfred Baah said the training was necessary because some health facilities are not following required standards. He mentioned issues such as leaking roofs, use of unqualified staff, and outdated equipment, which can harm patients.
Dr. Baah explained that HeFRA is working with facility operators to help them understand and follow regulations. He said the goal is to improve patient care and ensure quality healthcare services.
He warned that facilities that fail to comply with regulations may face penalties, including fines, closure, or withdrawal of licenses. However, he added that facilities will be given a grace period to meet the required standards, with continuous monitoring in place.
Dr. Baah also encouraged the public to help by reporting unlicensed facilities. He advised patients to always check for a visible HeFRA license or sticker when visiting any health facility.
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, praised the initiative and stressed the importance of maintaining high standards in healthcare delivery. She noted that safe and quality healthcare depends on strict adherence to regulations.
She urged facility managers to take the training seriously, follow all guidelines, and stay prepared for emergencies and new diseases through continuous learning.
The Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare through infrastructure, equipment, and staff support. She encouraged all participants to apply what they learned to improve healthcare services in the region.
