Popular expert coach in the Ghana Premier League J. E. Sarpong has described the 2020/2021 season as a “Black Colour Season” due to the numerous violence and negativities witnessed during the season.
Speaking on Bryt Sports with Sylvester Ntim, Mr. Sarpong hinted that the performance of the league was hugely affected due to the high aggressiveness, verbal abuse, and conflicts from teams and their oppositions during and post matches.
According to him, amidst all the violence portrayed throughout the season, the nation also witnessed an exciting tenor.
“The league was very exciting from the beginning. It encouraged those who lost interest in the local league to cast their attention.”
“Most of the excitement started after the innovative strategy raised by Legon Cities by permitting free tickets to ladies during matches on Fridays. As well as bring masses in their buses to support.” He said.
The veteran coach added that although there were some setbacks along the line including officiating accusations, the season should be regarded as one of the best in the history of Ghana football.
2020/2021 Ghana Premier League ended on the 18th of July 2021 with Accra Hearts of Oat being crowned as champions after twelve years of seasonal trophy drought.
