The Eastern Regional Health Directorate has held its 2026 First Quarter Public Health Emergency Management Committee Meeting assuring of readiness to proactively detect,contain and efficiently respond to any emergency health situations in the region.
The Committee is made up of the Regional Minister / Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Serving as the Chair and provides political/administrative leadership,Regional Director of Health Services who acts as the primary health expert and co-chair, the Regional Disease Control Officer, helps in tracking epidemiological data and outbreaks while the Regional Health Promotion Officer assigned with public education and community sensitization.
The rest of the members are Regional Public Health Nurse who Coordinates clinical and community nursing responses, Regional Environmental Health Officer who Focuses on sanitation, hygiene, and safe burial practices.
The Security & Emergency Services representatives on the committee are Regional National Disaster Management Organization Director, Regional Police Commander, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Regional Commander, head of Ghana Ambulance Service.
Others include the Ghana Journalists Association,NCCE, ISD,Head of Vertinary Service and Religeous leaders.
Addressing participants at the meeting held June Tuesday June 9,2026 in Koforidua,the Deputy Director of Public Health at the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, Dr. Moses Barimah Djimatey, urged stakeholders from the health sector and other public institutions to strengthen preventive measures and preparedness mechanisms to effectively address public health emergencies.
The platform provided an opportunity for participants to assess the region’s emergency response systems and discuss strategies for improved coordination and rapid response to public health threats.
Dr. Moses outlined the region’s preparedness, prevention, coordination, and response mechanisms and emphasized the need to institutionalize the quarterly meetings of the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee, describing them as essential for strengthening collaboration and ensuring timely responses to emergencies.
According to him, effective management of public health emergencies requires collective efforts and continuous engagement among all stakeholders to safeguard the health and well-being of the population.
On his part Mr. Peter Essaim Asante commended the Regional Public Health Team for their prompt and effective response to emergency situations recorded in the region. He praised the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the team and called for stronger collaboration with key agencies and stakeholders to enhance public safety and improve emergency response systems.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the Eastern Regional Health Directorate and its partners to building a resilient health system capable of preventing, detecting, and responding effectively to public health emergencies.
